Run for Rivenes is a group of runners in the 2014 Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Half-Marathon whose goal is to raise money for adrenal cancer research at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Our friend and colleague, Dr. Shannon Rivenes, was diagnosed with adrenocortical carcinoma on September 20, 2012. Due to the rarity of this cancer (~1:1,000,000 people), resources and funding for research are extremely limited.
Please help us with our cause. Every dollar is so much appreciated. We’ll gratefully accept donations through Valentine’s Day (2/24/14).
WE SURPASSED $70,000 TODAY!! THANK YOU!!
TODAY WAS RACE DAY! Team Rivenes consisted of Emily Lawrence, Wendy (Hammerman) Kilburn and John Kilburn in the full marathon, and Allison Mahlstedt in the half marathon. Carrie Altman ran for another great charity, but was also running with us in spirit. The weather was absolutely beautiful. All runners did incredibly well and all crossed the finish line!
WE SURPASSED OUR GOAL OF $50,000 TODAY!!!!
Today was an amazing day! The Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department arranged a “Fill the Bucket” fundraiser to raise money for Run for Rivenes. (Shannon’s husband has been their medical director for several years). Over 40 firefighters, paramedics and family members volunteered time collecting money at the intersection of 290 and Barker-Cypress. It was incredible. They raised over $10,000. We were completely overwhelmed.
Shannon’s scans were clean today. 6 months cancer-free!
